Learn to sail
RCPYC is committed to sail training and actively encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to join in. We are an accredited and insured RYA training centre, with something to offer for all levels of experience from beginner to yachtmaster (theory). Theory training is run in house, while the practical training is provided by approved training organisations. We strongly recommend that newcomers carry out some basic training prior to going out on the water, it improves your chance of being selected to join a crew plus it makes the whole experience much safer for everyone involved.
The following is a list of local training providers:
Cinque Ports Sail Training Centre:
These guys are located right on our doorstep, with the training centre enjoying a great rapport with the club. The centre is owned and managed by club members, who employ professional instructors to run the RYA syllabus courses. They have 2 large yachts in Dover marina used for RYA course training and for less formal fun cruising designed to improve skills and experience. They also have a very active dinghy section based at Conningbrook Lakes near Ashford. They have the ability to deliver basic powerboat training.
Dover Sea Sports Centre:
Located on the water front, Dover Sea Sports has an enviable location. They are a professionally run organisation who focus on dinghy sailing, windsurfing, paddle boarding and power boating. Their premises are also the home to The Cinque Ports Pirates dinghy sailing club.
Terry Lee is the principle instructor of Medway based Excel Yachting. He has a personable character, which is perfect for the delivery of his shore-based theory courses. He regularly runs RYA accredited courses in the clubs’ classrooms.
